The town of Lake Waccamaw celebrated Independence Day to the fullest in 2023. On Monday evening, July 3, the municipality held its first summer flotilla. The floating procession was lead by Lake Waccamaw Fire and Rescue as they made their way northeast from the Canal Cove wildlife boat ramp.
An array of red, white, and blue decorated each vessel as participants let their patriotic spirit show for the country that they love, while another boaters dressed as Lady Liberty or played live music to express their gratefulness about being ‘Born in the U.S.A.’
Town Clerk Meredith Parker hopes that the flotilla will be a tradition in the area.
” We’re hoping to be able to continue this annually. It’s a great way to bring the community together,” said Parker.
The town will also host their Christmas flotilla during the holidays.
On Tuesday, July 4, Lake Waccamaw Fire and Rescue made an appearance once again. The department held their annual hotdog sale fundraiser and boot drop. Hotdogs sold for $3 each and drinks were purchased for $1. Members were set up in front of the building to collect community donations in their fire boots.
