One man is in critical condition after he was shot during a fight in Buckhead Friday. A female victim is recovering after she was allegedly run over by the suspect.
The suspect was arrested after he returned to the crime scene, according to the sheriff’s office.
Douglas Blake Freeman, 37, of 673 Buckhead Rd., Bolton, was held under $500,000 secured bond, charged with attempted murder and shooting into an occupied vehicle, detention records show.
On Friday, Nov. 17, the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to Buckhead Road to a report of a gunshot wound. While enroute to the scene, Columbus Central advised that a female was also injured at the scene when she was run over by a motor vehicle.
The shooting victim, Antwan Branton, 27, of Bolton, was being transported by private vehicle to seek medical care. Deputies located the vehicle and Branton on Old Lake Road. Deputies secured both scenes.
In a press release the CCSO said Freeman and Branton had a verbal argument that escalated to a physical altercation.
“Branton was attempting to escape the barrage of gunfire and unintentionally ran over” Anna Branton, the release said. She was transported to Columbus Regional Healthcare Center where she was treated for minor injuries.
Antwan Branton was transported to Columbus Regional and later airlifted to New Hanover Regional Medical Center. He remains in critical condition with multiple gunshot wounds to the leg and torso areas.
Freeman fled the scene in his truck but later returned while deputies and investigators were still processing the scene, the release said. He was taken into custody without incident.
