The West Columbus Football team is headed for an historic matchup with Tarboro Friday, and supporters hope the team can make the long trip in comfort.
The WCHS Vikings are playing Tarboro for the Eastern 1A title. The winner goes to the State 1A State Championship at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill the next weekend.
Coach LaMonte Williamson has put out a call for help. He hopes the school can raise $2,000 by Friday for a charter bus that will carry the team and coaches.
A post on the WCHS Viking Endzone Facebook page said that the school has agreed to pay for a pre game meal for the trip to Tarboro. The bus will have to be funded through donations, and any extra monies would go directly to the football program.
Donations can be brought to West Columbus High School. All checks should be made out to West Columbus High School with football playoffs in the memo of the check.
