Columbus County water crews worked through Sunday’s storm and a bitterly cold night finding, then repairing a major malfunction in Water District II, only to have the system spring another leak on Tuesday morning.
The initial problem was located on Jack Yates Road. County spokesperson Amanda Prince said the first repairs were made and work began rechlorinating the water system around 10 p.m. Monday. Pressure was restored around 5 a.m. Today, but another break on U.S. 76 left customers with little or no water pressure around 9:30 a.m.
Workers are working to repair the latest break, Asst. County Manager Gail Edwards said.
“We apologize for the inconvenience that this has caused for our WD II customers,” Edwards said in an email. “Our team has worked around the clock and continues to work to get this issue resolved as soon as possible.”
Currently, customers on Grist, Blackwell and Old Stack Roads and along Chadbourn Highway from Grist Road to Old 74 are affected.
Customers in the entire affected area are under a boil advisory until further notice. All water used for consumption should be boiled vigorously for at least one minute before being used.
