February 10, 1945 ~ December 3, 2023 (age 78)
Edgar Hampton Tison, 78, of Whiteville, passed away on December 3, 2023. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, neighbor, and friend. Above all, he was a faithful servant of Christ.
Edgar was born on February 10, 1945, in Whiteville to the late Lloyd Francis Tison and Mary Ann Long Tison. Edgar graduated from Whiteville High School in 1963. There he met his sweetheart, Diane Horne, and they were married on May 30, 1965. Following high school, Edgar worked with his father and with Robert Suggs-Dairymen Incorporated in Elizabethtown. In 1982, he began working at Federal Paper, later International Paper, retiring in 2009 after 30 years. Edgar was a member of the First Baptist Church of Whiteville, attending regularly until his declining health prevented him from doing so.
Of all the things Edgar enjoyed, spending time with Diane was what he enjoyed most. Whether they were making a trip into town or working on a project at home, he was the happiest to be with Diane. He also enjoyed visiting with friends, watching Whiteville Wolfpack football, and soaking in every moment, first with his children and later his grandchildren, at ball games, dance recitals, awards ceremonies, and birthday parties.
In addition to his wife, Edgar is survived by his daughters Wendy Dew (Dewayne) and Scarlet Edwards (Scott), son Alex Tison (Sheila); grandchildren, Cameron Blackwell (Jennifer), Whitney Dew, Eli Edwards, Alice Tison, and Liam Tison; and great-grandchildren Camden, Leah, and Haven.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 8, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Whiteville. Burial will follow in the Whiteville Memorial Park.
The family will have a time of visitation from 12:00 noon until 1:45 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Whiteville.
