Hit and miss engines, horse drawn plows, antique tractors and so much more will take center stage Friday through Sunday at the Boys and Girls Home of Lake Waccamaw.
The 14th annual Southern Farm Days, sponsored by the Cape Fear Farm Heritage Association, is expected to bring thousands of visitors to the Lake this year.
Farm Days routinely draws visitors and participants from across the South. The show is a recommended event for several antique tractor clubs and similar groups.
The restored century-old sawmill will be in operation, with horse and mule-drawn plow demonstrations in the area the Association hopes to reproduce a typical 1900s Columbus County farmstead.
Living historians will set up camps demonstrating life during the 18th and 19th centuries, and the antique swap meet and auction are expected to be the largest ever.
While the event opens Friday, Saturday is the biggest day. The Parade of Power is at noon, followed by the Antique Tractor Pull, Lawn Mower pull, and the ever-popular Kiddie Tractor Pull.
Dozens of classic cars, trucks, tractors and heavy equipment will be on display. A blacksmith will be demonstrating the craft of ironwork throughout all three days. Arts and crafts vendors as well as food trucks will be on hand.
Education booths from the Columbus County Beekeepers and other groups will be open. Kids and adults can meet goats, sheep, hogs and other farm animals at the petting zoo.
Gates open at 8:30 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. Sunday.
Admission is $10, with children 11 and under free. Active duty military with valid ID also get free admission. Alcohol, pets and ATVS/golf carts are prohibited.
