A plea deal has been reached in the case of a man charged with child sex offenses.

Michael John Fishburn, 46, formerly of White Pine Rd., Lake Waccamaw, pleaded guilty Monday to one count of indecent liberties with a child. A charge of statutory sex offense was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.

Fishburn was sentenced to 24 months supervised probation, and must register as a sex offender for 30 years, according to court documents. Fishburn was also ordered to pay $2,295 in court fees, and not reside in a household with any minor child. He received credit for 90 days time served.

Fishburn was arrested in April 2022. He was charged with having sexual relations with a female child who was four years old at the time. The acts occurred between Feb. 1 and March 1, 2022, according to the warrant.

District Attorney Jon David said the family endorsed the plea deal to prevent the victim from being forced to testify in open court.

Asst. District Attorney Jenna Marie Earley represented the state. Judge Jason Disbrow approved the agreement. Fishburn was represented by Griffith Garner. Det. A. Geogahan investigated the case for the sheriff’s office.
