Flooding at Fair Bluff has caused county emergency officials to reopen the shelter at West Columbus High School in Cerro Gordo.
County spokesman Daniel Buck announced the decision today (Friday) as floodwaters continued to rise in the river town.
U.S. 76 and Riverside Drive were closed today as several feet of water swelled out of the Lumber River into downtown. The Lumber is not expected to crest until at least Sunday, although there was some fluctuation in the flood gauge under the Lumber River Bridge at 6:30 p.m.
Pets are not allowed at the shelter at WCHS.
All four county shelters were closed Thursday. Currently WCHS is the only shelter to reopen.
