Multiple roads are closed across the county due to Tropical Storm Debby’s heavy rains.
Sheriff Bill Rogers said several drivers have been rescued after disregarding road closed signs.
“If you encounter a road closed sign placed by the DOT, do not move the roadblocks and do not attempt to drive around them,” Roger’s said in a press release Thursday evening. “ These signs are there for your safety. We’ve had to rescue several individuals who ignored these warnings and their vehicles were swept away by the water. Please don’t put yourself or our first responders in unnecessary danger.”

Rogers said that flooding is just beginning to have effects in the county.
“While the storm may be passing, the effects of flooding are just beginning,” he said. “ As water flows from neighboring counties into ours, we anticipate much more flooding in the coming days, with water levels predicted to crest around Sunday.
“Please, if possible, stay home, stay off the roads, and stay safe. We are actively monitoring the situation and will continue to provide updates as they become available.”
