The embattled N.C. office of resilience and recovery is accepting comments through December 14 on proposed changes in using federal funds to rebuild homes damaged or destroyed in hurricanes Matthew, Florence and Helene. Among the modifications are exceptions for placing homes in floodplains, accelerating homeowner relief and other changes. Check out this story on our website for more, or go to rebuild.nc.gov. A structure fire on Money Hole Road started from a space heater, but rekindled in what officials consider to be suspicious circumstances. No one was injured in the pre-dawn fire. It was the second space heater fire in Acme Delco Riegelwood’s district in less than 24 hours. Both homes were destroyed.

A student at Southeastern Community College was injured Wednesday when a firearm fell from a vehicle and discharged. The student was transported to Columbus Regional with nonlife threatening injuries. No other students were involved, and there was never a danger to other people on campus, the school said in a press release.
