News Briefs for December 16, 2024
Most of the state, including Columbus County, is considered in a moderate drought right now. Brief rains we have seen in recent weeks have not been enough to catch up with the normal water levels. The dry conditions have led to more forest litter, while increasing the fire danger. No burn bans have been issued at this time for our area. Local fire departments have responded to several wildfires in recent days that started from debris fires. We will see some rain later this week. A knife, firearm, screwdriver and car radio antenna were said to be used in a domestic assault that injured an infant Dec. 7 on Peaceful Way near Chadbourn. The seven month old baby sustained minor injuries.
Guiton’s Pharmacy is changing its name and management. The landmark Whiteville drug store is now Whiteville Family Pharmacy, under the leadership of Angela Soles. The soda counter will remain in operation, with its famous handmade milkshakes, and the staff with also remain the same. Whiteville Family Pharmacy is located at Madison and Commerce Streets in downtown Whiteville.
