Beaverdam Original Freewill Baptist Church was jammed with friends, family and first responders Saturday, all saying goodbye to Master Trooper Anthony Godwin. The Highway Patrol trooper died last week on a hunting trip. Godwin, age 35, left behind a wife and two small children.  An account has been set up through State Employees Credit Union to assist the family. Donations to the family may be made to the Benefit for Anthony Godwin at any SECU branch. Make checks out to Heather Godwin.

 

The Columbus County Sheriff’s office are collecting camp stove size LP bottles for shipment to Western North Carolina. The deadline is January 12, 2025. Drop off your donations at the Columbus County Sheriff’s office on Washington Street in Whiteville. Let us show the strength of our community by supporting this important cause. Together, we can make a real impact and help keep families both  be warm and fed during these challenging months.

 

We will see subfreezing temperatures at night and chilly temperatures by day this week, it will be dangerously cold. Be sure you winterize your vehicles, protect your pipes and secure water pump housing. Make provisions for outside pets as well. Be sure to keep up with the CCN Weather Updates posted every morning by 6:00 a.m.

 

When temperatures are below 40 degrees, the warming station will be open from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. nightly at Facts of Life Church, 506 N. Lee Street, Whiteville. Meals will be served at the Center, behind the main church. Call 910.918.4531
