County Commissioners Monday tabled two controversial agenda items. A memorandum of understanding regarding financial reporting from the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office was held over until a future meeting. Commissioners also tabled a proposal that would have regulated recreational vehicles and camper trailers used as homes.
A Nakina fire truck was destroyed and another one seriously damaged Monday after a fire at the Pireway substation. Chief Victor Jacobs said the fire truck that ignited the blaze was involved in a collision the day before while deployed on the Horry County wildfires. A tanker was also heavily damaged in Monday’s blaze. No injuries were reported and damage to the structure was kept to a minimum.
Davene Cox Fowler will present a paper on “Kinship of the Members of St. Paul Methodist Church” Saturday at the Southeastern Genealogical Society Meeting. The presentation was written by Richard Wright, and focuses on Margaret Cox Lay Wright. Fowler is a member of St. Paul. She is also a Christian recording artist, with five CDs to her name.
