The Columbus County Sheriff’s office said Myrtle Beach Air Traffic Control reported being struck by the laser while trying to land at Columbus County Airport around 9:00 p.m. The report said the laser appeared to originate around three miles from the airport, in the vicinity of Price Road or Farm Lane.
Teresa Jacobs of Pembroke has claimed a $100,000 prize from the state education lottery. After required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $71,756. She claimed her prize money on Monday at State Lottery headquarters.
A Crusoe Island Road massive wildfire apparently started from a bulldozer clearing land. The Forest Service and volunteer departments are fighting the fire, which began at the end of Crusoe Island Road and spread North, then back to the West.
Fire departments across Columbus County stayed busy through the weekend with a number of fires, most from illegal burns. A burn ban went into effect Friday morning in the county and across the state.
