2,800+ Customers Without Power Here

Duke Progress Energy has more than 2,800 customers without power across two areas of Columbus County this afternoon.

Duke Progress media representatives confirmed the data from the company’s outage map, but did not provide specific details on the interruption.

Most of the outages are in an area from west Whiteville to Chadbourn, Evergreen and Cerro Gordo, while just under 400 are scattered between Lake Waccamaw and Hallsboro.

Two separate outages in the Chadbourn area were caused by malfunctioning equipment, according to the Duke outage map website. Full restoration is expected by 5 p.m.  The cause was not listed for the interruptions in the eastern area. Power should be back on in that area by 5 p.m. as well.
