CCSO: Woman Who Claimed to be APS Identified

The sheriff’s office and Animal Protective Services (APS) have identified a woman who wass reportedly going  door to door threatening to shoot dogs.

The woman allegedly said she was from “Animal Control,” the sheriff’s office said, but she is not an employee of the sheriff’s office or APS. The sheriff’s office has received multiple calls about the individual today (Oct. 14).

“We want to make it very clear that this individual does not work for Columbus County Sheriff’s Office or Animal Protective Services,” a press release said.

APS is “Actively investigating these reports,” the release said, and seeking the community’s help in locating and identifying the individual.

The woman is driving a blue SUV, the sheriff’s office said. She was identified after the CCSO posted on social media requesting the public’s assistance.

Her name and more information about the case have not been released.This s a developing story.
