Hi everyone, Meteorologist Christopher Cawley here with the CCN Daily Weather Update for Saturday 1/11/2025.
My predictions were spot-on with regards to the generally trace amounts of ice that we received in our little winter weather event. Any leftover rain this morning should be ending fairly quickly, and we should end up seeing plenty of sunshine this afternoon, albeit rather cold.
High pressure will build in tonight and our temps fall back into the lower and middle 20s. Bright sunny skies for Sunday but highs … running about 10-13 degrees below normal… will reach the lower to middle 40s at best. I put 45 on the chart (graphic below) for Sunday, but that might be rather optimistic.
We will have dry and “remarkably unremarkable” weather conditions through the coming week. A dry frontal boundary will increase a little bit of moisture on Monday, but at worst, that should bring some clouds from time to time and a brief warm-up in temperatures. After the cold front moves through, we return to the unusually prolonged cold weather we’ve experienced all month thus far. NWS is implying that Cold Weather Advisories may be needed Tuesday night and Wednesday night.
Looking way out in the future, the Euro modeling suggests a storm system impacts our area with off-and-on rain Sunday the 19th through Tuesday the 21st. GFS also points at a storm system next weekend, and is colder than the Euro with a renewed wintry weather potential. It’s way, way too far off in the future to even give much more than just a thought right now.
The Climate Prediction Center trends are continuing with colder-than-normal temps, and, interestingly, above-normal precip chances through essentially the end of the month.
Here are the 6-10 day forecasts (temperature and precipitation)—
Here are the 8-14 day outlooks—
Does any of that mean we have additional snow chances? They do… but as we just saw with yesterday evening’s event, conditions have to be juuuust perfect for snow to fall to any amount in Columbus County.
Here’s your six-day forecast graphic. Have a wonderful weekend, thank you for reading, and as always, take care!
