An unattended pot caused a fire that left heavy damage to a Whiteville home Wednesday.
Emergency Services Director Hal Lowder said Whiteville firefighters were called to the Creighton Street home around 9:30 p.m.
The fire was burning in the kitchen of the home and had spread to an attic area, Lowder said, but firefighters managed to save the rest of the house.
“They got on it quickly and knocked it down,” Lowder said. “It could have been much worse.”
The occupants of the home got out safely, Lowder said, and no injuries were reported.
