The third suspect in a shooting and robbery that ended with a car crash in Whiteville has been jailed. Tallis Jeremiah Vereen, age 24, of Chadbourn was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and armed robbery.
Whiteville City Council on Tuesday will discuss the Provalus Project and planned improvements to Lee and Franklin Streets. Officials are working closely with DOT to get the infrastructure work finished before DOT resurfaces both roadways. State officials announced Friday that the city received a $390,000 grant to reuse a 19,000-square-foot building for Provalus. The company will create 60 new jobs with a private investment of $1.7 million dollars.
Deputies detained a teenager in a stolen Jeep after a midnight chase earlier this week. The teen’s name was not released because he is only 15. The chase occurred near Memory’s Corner, off U.S. 701 on the Bladen-Columbus County line.
