Christopher John Heimnick, 28, was initially charged with first degree arson, assault on a female and domestic violence. The Sheriff’s Office is expected to add a first degree murder to the list today (Monday) after a meeting between the SBI, sheriff’s office and district attorney. Heimnick’s address was listed as 1902 Manley Smith Rd., Nakina. He is being held under no bond.

Sheriff Bill Rogers said deputies were initially called to the 700 Manley Smith address on a domestic disturbance, but Heimnick had fled the scene. Lee called 911 again later to report that he had returned. Deputies were en route when another 911 call reported a fire at the home.

When Nakina firefighters arrived, the report said, the home was completely engulfed. Lee was found nearby. Smith’s body was found inside.

Rogers said SBI Arson investigators were immediately called, and the incident is being investigated as an arson and murder.
