A statewide burn ban is now in effect, as well as a local burn ban. That rain yesterday did very little to alleviate the drought conditions in our area, and County Fire Marshall Shannon Blackmon issued a ban on outdoor burning effective this morning, concurrent with the state ban.
Whiteville Police are urging drivers to remove valuables from vehicles and lock your doors. Police are investigating a string of car break-ins and several thefts of vehicles in recent weeks. Anyone with information about the thefts is asked to call 642.5111.
North Carolina is closer than ever to having a constitutional carry law. The senate passed its version of a bill that would not require a permit to carry a concealed weapon. The house version has advanced to the rules committee and could see a vote in the near future.
Saturday is Thunder in The Park at the Veterans Memorial Park. Classic cars, trucks and motorcycles will be on display. There will be food vendors, a 50-50 raffle, and activities for the kids. Judging is from 9-11 a.m. Trophies will be awarded at 2 p.m. All proceeds benefit the Veterans Park.
