Mikayla Deane (Detention Center)

The caregiver of a young child has been charged with child abuse after the youngster was found with bites and bruises.

Makayla Nicole Deane, 25, of 28 Tom Session Rd., Whiteville, was held under $2,500 bond on charges of misdemeanor child abuse. She turned herself in to authorities and was released Monday, according to detention center reports.

Sheriff’s reports show that deputies were called to Columbus Regional July 15 to a suspected case of abuse. The child in question had been treated for “multiple visible injuries, including bruising and bite marks” at an urgent care. The child’s age was not released, but Deane was babysitting at the time, according to the report.

Deane turned herself in Tuesday to face a single count of misdemeanor child abuse. She was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond.
