Raid Nets Three Arrests, Firearm ‘Switches’

Five devices used to modify firearms into fully-automatic weapons were among the contraband seized during a raid in Whiteville today (June 2).

Whiteville Police Chief Paul Rockenbach said in a press release that the WPD Investigation and Narcotics Division, along with the sheriff’s office, executed a search warrant on a home at 107 Smith Alley. Community complaints about suspected drug activity led to the investigation and subsequent search warrant, the press release said.

Jyshaun Latavis Wilder, 18, was held under $75,000 secured bond. He faces five counts of possession of a weapon of mass destruction and one of drug paraphernalia. His address was listed as 407 Virgil St., Whiteville.

Leslie Quick, 34, of 43 Toby’s Lane, Whiteville, was charged with felony conspiracy. Her bond was not available.

Connail Lewis Reaves, 36, was held without bond. He was charged with five counts each of possession of narcotics within 1,000 feet of a school and 1,000 feet of a park; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; one count each of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver methamphetamine, cocaine and Schedule IV narcotics;  manufacturing meth; manufacturing cocaine; and possession of both marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Among the evidence seized in the raid were five 3D printed pins that convert legal firearms into machine guns. Commonly called a “switch,” the devices are illegal to possess without a federal license.

“The Whiteville Police Department and Columbus County Sheriff’s Office remain committed to aggressively addressing illegal narcotics activity and maintaining the safety and quality of life for the citizens of Whiteville and Columbus County,” Rockenbach said in the press release
