Body Identified; No Foul Play, WPD Says

The woman found deceased in an abandoned car in Whiteville Aug. 27 has been identified as Matassa Glenette Moore.

Whiteville Police Chief Paul Rockenbach said foul play is not suspected in the death.

Moore’s body was found in an abandoned vehicle near a home in the 300 block of West Columbus Street around 1:30 p.m., according to WPD. Officers were called to the scene after someone reported the body in the car. Whiteville investigators and the State Bureau of Investigation responded.

Moore was 49.

The woman’s body was taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy and further identification, the chief said.
