Around 75 people of all races turned out Saturday to honor the memory and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Dalton Dockery organized the march from Vineland Station to the historic courthouse and back to the depot. The road gathered at the courthouse for prayers and speeches.
Despite a cold breeze and the threat of rain, marchers gathered at Vineland at 11 a.m. for a quick prayer and to pick up their escort from Whiteville Police. They then made their way up Main to Madison Street, singing and chanting. Marchers ranged in age from toddlers to senior citizens, and there were representatives of all races in the crowd.
