A favorite weekend pastime is coming to Lake Waccamaw in a very big way. Ginger Littrell, wife of town commissioner Terry Littrell, has helped to organize a town wide community yard sale on Labor Day Monday, Sept. 4. The treasure hunt will begin at 8 a.m., and over 100 homes in Lake Waccamaw including the Wooded Acres community will be participating.
Littrell said the holiday is the perfect time to have the event because visitors will be in the area for another lakeside tradition.
“That’s Take the Lake weekend when a big crowd will come to the lake for their personal fitness challenge. Monday morning is the traditional lake swim and was the best day of the weekend for us to have our treasure hunt,” expressed Littrell.
There is no formal sign up for the yard sale. Residents will be setting up in their driveways, garages, yards, and car ports with babbles, trinkets, crafts, household items, and hand-me-downs. With enough participation, the sale could became an annual occurrence.
Some high seas characters may also be added to the mix.
“Hopefully, participants will dress as pirates to add to the fun,” said the organizer.
Many residents are already jumping aboard the treasure hunt ship. Local artist Ken Brewer is currently designing a promotional flyer that will be handed out soon advertising the event.
Littrell is also trying to get other organizations to join in on the opportunity.
“I will encourage the local churches to have their rummage sales that day too,” she said.
If you are a Lake Waccamaw resident who would like to participate in the event and you need more information, please contact Ginger Dortmund Littrell via Facebook Messenger. The yard sale will begin at 8 a.m. and will continue until sold out or until sellers are worn out.
