Father, Infant Die in Bladen Fire

A father and a baby died Sunday in a fire near White Lake.

Bladen County Fire Marshall Kenneth Clark said the blaze was reported around 2:30 p.m. When firefighters arrived at the home on Susie Sandhill Road, the singlewide as engulfed in flames.

“They found two girls outside and confirmed that a father and his nine-month-old son were still inside,” Clark said.

The mother had gone to the grocery store while the rest of the family was taking a nap, Clark said.

Four fire departments from Bladen, along with one each from Sampson and Cumberland, responded to the fire. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
