In one of the fastest election nights in recent history, Columbus County’s unofficial results were in by 9:10 p.m. tonight (Nov. 5).
Republican voters dominated the local ballots. Incumbent Giles “Buddy” Byrd, a democrat, defeated Republican challenger Salahudin Majeed, 2,321 to 1,091.
The county came out strong in favor of embattled Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson’s gubernatorial race. Robinson gave his concession speech before all the county’s votes were in. In Columbus, Robinson had 14,945 votes to Democrat Josh Stein’s 9,870.
