A narcotics investigation turned up a stolen handgun that had been illegally converted to a fully automatic weapon, the sheriff’s office said.
Juwarn Andre Britt Jr., 22, was the target of a multi-month investigation into illegal drug sales, according to a sheriff’s office press release. He was taken into custody Monday on charges of possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine, maintaining a place for drug activities, possession of a stolen firearm, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, and drug paraphernalia. His bond was set at $15,000. Records gave is address as 2342 Williams Rd., Chadbourn.
Multiple illegal purchases of drugs took place at the home, the CCSO said. When investigators raided the home, they found illegal drugs, paraphernalia, and firearms. One of the guns was a handgun reported stolen in South Carolina. The pistol had been fitted with a “Switch,” a device that converts ordinary semi-automatic firearms into automatic weapons.
The investigation is continuing through the county’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives task force officer.
“This investigation demonstrates the importance of proactive enforcement and the commitment of our Special Operations Vice/Narcotics Unit,” Sheriff Bill Rogers said. “Illegal narcotics and unlawfully possessed firearms create serious dangers within our communities. We will continue using every available resource and working with our law enforcement partners to identify criminal activity, remove dangerous items from our streets and hold offenders accountable.”
