More details released on child abuse case
Williams Township School staff are being credited with helping a child who was allegedly being beaten by the student’s mother.
Christina Angelique Formyduval, 37, of 962 Will Inman Rd., Tabor City, was released on $6,000 unsecured bond on three charges of felony intentional child abuse, the sheriff’s office reported.
During a tornado drill on March 12, the sheriff’s office said, school personnel saw that the seven-year-old had severe bruises on the lower back. Further examination turned up scratches, bruising between the thighs, on the back, sides and buttocks, and a split lip that was bleeding. School staff contacted Social Service workers, who in turn called the sheriff’s office.
The investigation showed that the suspect “had repeatedly struck the child with a belt and homemade paddle,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release.
“Formyduval also reportedly held the child while she struck the child in the mouth with her hand.”
The beatings occurred March 3,4 and 54, the sheriff’s office said.
Formyduval was arrested at the sheriff’s office March 24.
“The Williams Township School personnel are heroes,” Sheriff Jody Greene said in a press release. “They used their experience and listened to their intuition to assist this child, who needed someone to be their voice. The school personnel did so without hesitation. The courage and love these professionals showed for this child proves that the love they have for their students extends far beyond the classrooms and the walls of the school.”
The case is under investigation by the Department of Social Services.
